Product Names?

One of the post important topics of our first discussion was the brand name in which we were going to use for our product. At first we were quite unsure of how to go about finding one to suit our target audience. Shortly after this period of contemplation, I came up with the idea of the group coming up with and providing 10 original brand names that we can show members of our target audience. Their job is to then choose one brand out of the ten and our job is to then finally tally up the winning brand name and use this.

After my team individually asked our target audience for their decisions on which name to use, we came together and added all results obtained together to make up a total score for each original name. As you can see, the most voted names were 'Rein', which won with 13 votes and 'Sniff' which was the runner up brand name with a score of 7.

ANALYSIS AND CONCEPT OF TWO TOP BRAND NAMES

Rein
...derived from the idea of a Horse rein, in which does the job of holding the Horse back when riding it. We thought that this was a good way to describe the groups expectations of the washing powder; we believe that by using 'Rein', all stains will be taken away, held back and removed.

A suitable song that would fit our target audience and that we could also incorporate into our advert is 'Purple Rain' sung by Prince. Because the song has the word 'rain' in it, it would fit very well with our advert. We also thought about using the colour purple in our advert and on our final product to represent the washing powder. Using a bold colour such as purple for our washing powder will hopefully allow the product to be subconsciously remembered by our target audience.

Rein practice video

The video above was created in order for others to capture the idea of what our advert will be based around. There will be some sort of purple element incorporated into our final advert. We will also use footage or images of a washing machine and a horse, which will highlight the meaning of the advert and product name more clearly.

SNiFF
...derived from the influence of various drugs such as cocaine. We thought that in a way, the name 'Sniff' could relate to our product very well. Cocaine is white; our product makes clothes white. We thought that a minority of Individuals from our target audience our target audience and other audiences may 'sniff' the drugs mentioned; the expectation of our product was that it will make clothes smell nice. Our team also thought that this name was quite humorous and is a play on words.

We then came to a unanimous decision that our product name would be 'Rein'.
